Whilst these systems are still to be considered as a short-term option until cladding is safely removed, they mitigate a serious risk by using the latest fire detection technology. Our waking-watch replacement fire detection solution can be upgraded to the fire officers phased evacuation system following the successful completion of non compliant cladding removal. All that would be required is the addition of the fire officers panel which will automatically wirelessly connect to the evacuation sounders installed.
Waking Watch vs. Fire Alarm Systems
The aim of a waking watch system is to ensure that there is sufficient warning in the event of a fire so that occupants of the building can evacuate safely. The UK Government describe Waking Watch as:
“A system whereby suitably trained persons continually patrol all floors and the exterior perimeter of the building in order to detect a fire, raise the alarm, and carry out the role of evacuation management.”

In many cases, waking watch requires two to five trained personnel to patrol the property 24/7. According to a recent study the cost of one Waking Watch staff exceeds the cost of an alarm system in as little as 3 months.
